It’s back! Ponte Vista is the name for the development on Western again across from Green Hills. In 2018 the Harridge Development Group paid $151.6 million to purchase the rights to the 60 acres “High Park” development.

Formerly Navy housing, this much anticipated project has languished for decades. The original plan was for a variety of almost 2,500 units ranging from condos to single family homes. This plan also included housing for seniors, more community amenities and affordable housing.

After much pushback from the general public, the project was greatly pared down to about 650 mostly single family homes. There will not be affordable units or senior housing. There will be green space, a perimeter trail, and a small recreation center for owners.

With a new developer leading the charge, the project is currently building the infrastructure so they can let selected construction contractors build out the actual homes. We are starting to see actual progress along Western with new sewer, water and electric lines being run to the site. Part of the plan approval by the city required changes in roadways including a new road into and out of Mary Star High School. Once complete, the student traffic currently on Taper will be re-routed to the new road. The Taper entrance will only be used by teachers and staff. This road should be completed by the fall of 2019 and the beginning of the school year.

Fun Fact

Ponte Vista has the same amount of land as The Gardens Townhomes … but will have only half as many homes.
